The Road So Far

I thought I would give you an update on how things are going for me.  I am still on my diet and sticking to it even though I have not lost anymore weight.  That is getting me down a little and making me feel a bit defeated.  But I do have my biggest supporter (my husband) telling me that its ok and to keep on the path that I am on.  It will come off in time.  I know Rome was not built in a day right?  I am trying to look at life in a much more positive way.

I am still on my Insulite PCOS system and I am feeling really good for the most part.  My cycle still has not come back yet which I know is due to the weight I put back on.  But that is ok I am working on getting that weight back off and more.  So yes I am in a really good place right now.  ~ Tammy

Natural Healing Part 3: Somethings Fishy

I know that infertility is a big issue with us women who have PCOS.  I wanted to share with you what I have found out about the benefits of Omega 3. Moss Greene had lots to say about these benefits at http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art43609.asp.  The following are just a few benefits that Omega 3 offers us.

1. Breast cancer protection
2. Relief from menstrual cramps
3. Improved fertility
4. Healthy babies
5. Preeclampsia prevention
6. Full term babies
7. Baby's brain
8. Less postpartum depression
9. Minimized menopause problems
10. Protection against osteoporosis
11. Reduced risk of heart disease

Surprisingly, I noticed that lots of these have to do with having a healthy baby and that is what lots of us with PCOS are going for.  Also the following article talks about how lots of men have infertility issues due to a lack of Omega 3 in their bodies.
http://www.the-fertility-acupuncturist.com/male-fertility-problem.html

Also, one last tip that I have found is to freeze your Omega 3's before taking them.  This provides help with that pesky fish taste that likes to come back and visit.  This is another one of the supplements that my husband and I have incorporated into our daily routine.  We have noticed a significant change in our bodies and our mind since starting the Omega 3's.  This is something I highly recommend you take on a daily basis. ~ Tammy

Happily Ever After

What is happiness?  That’s a big question and its different for everyone.  Some of us may say, "If I made more money, I would be happy" or "If I reach my goal weight, then I will be happy."  Why do we have to put a condition on our happiness?  I think part of being happy is acceptance.  Accepting EVERYTHING that happened in your past, good and bad.  Knowing that those things especially the bad made you who you are today.  We learn from those things and they truly make us better people.  Accepting the present.  Even though things may not be our own perfect image of how our life should be, it is what it is and although we accept it that does not mean we do not strive to make things better.  If it is in our control, do it, if not there is nothing we can do about it so we must accept it.  We must also accept that our future may not turn out exactly the way we want it.  I heard a line in a song once, "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans."

We cannot control everything.  Many of us feel we must control everything, but in reality we have total, complete control over much less than we think.  We must accept the things we have no control over.  There is a saying, "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it."  How are you reacting to things you have no control over?

I know this is much easier said than done, but we must strive to get there.  And I know that women with PCOS, like myself, may have to work a bit harder at this, but we can do it.  There will be bad days and really bad days, but hopefully as we strive towards ACCEPTANCE we will start having less bad days and many, many more good days.  Please join me as we find our happiness together. ~ Tammy

Portion Control

I have been battling with my diet lately.  I have decided to go back to the basics.  When you go back to the basics you first think of what you know 100% sure to be true.  I know that I lost 65 pounds last year.  How did I lose that 65 pounds?  The main thing that comes to mind is my portions.

I know that I had cut my portions down significantly.  A typical meal for my husband and I was two baked chicken tenders and a half plate of vegetables, whether it be broccoli, salad or cauliflower, etc and one piece of bread.  That had expanded here recently to two burgers or a half to three fourths a pound of meat.

I know that with my condition of PCOS I need to eat very little to no carbohydrates and I know I can get to that point, but I need to start somewhere and I need to start with what I know is true and what worked for me.  I have gone two days now cutting my portions way down and I am still pretty hungry.  I have been trying to eat small, healthy snacks every couple of hours to keep me from getting extremely hungry.  I know that it took me about two weeks last time to get used to the small portions and to be consistently satisfied with my portions.  I did get used to it and I will again.  I am excited because I know it is different this time.  I will succeed and I not only will lose another 65 pounds, but I will fly right past that. ~ Tammy

Natural Healing Part 2

Another natural supplement that I have been using regularly is Resveratrol.  Resveratrol is all over the news these days. Stories of the amazing benefits of resveratrol can still take the unwary by surprise. Did you know that it has cancer fighting properties? That the anti-aging benefits of resveratrol are so powerful that some have dubbed resveratrol the "Fountain of Youth"? It is an anti-inflammatory, increases energy levels, lowers blood sugar and extends life. These are clinically studied and tested benefits of resveratrol.

Webmd had the following to say about Resveratrol. It has gained a lot of attention for its reported antiaging and disease-combating benefits. Early research, mostly done in test tubes and in animals, suggests that resveratrol might help protect the body against a number of diseases, including:

Heart disease. Resveratrol helps reduce inflammation, prevents the oxidation of LDL "bad" cholesterol, and makes it more difficult for platelets to stick together and form the clots that can lead to a heart attack.

Cancer. Resveratrol is thought to limit the spread of cancer cells and trigger the process of cancer cell death (apoptosis).

Alzheimer's disease. Resveratrol may protect nerve cells from damage and the buildup of plaque that can lead to Alzheimer's.

Diabetes. Resveratrol helps prevent insulin resistance, a condition in which the body becomes less sensitive to the effects of the blood sugar-lowering hormone, insulin. Insulin resistance is a precursor to diabetes.

This is another supplement that I use regularly.  It may be one for you to try.  Who doesn't want to look and feel younger? ~ Tammy

Natural Healing Part 1

I am a firm believer in all natural supplements.  I feel as though 99% of the conditions out there, from high blood pressure to migraines and even diabetes, are caused from a lack of some sort of natural supplement in your body.  I have been doing a lot of research on several different supplements.  I have been taking Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).  I have only had it in my system for a couple of weeks now so the results are to be determined.

The following is what Ray Sahelian, M.D. has to say about CoQ10.

Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring nutrient found in each cell of the body. It was first identified by University of Wisconsin researchers in 1957. Coenzyme Q10 is found in foods, particularly in fish and meats. In addition to playing a significant role in the energy system of each of our cells, it is a good antioxidant. Many who take these pills notice that this nutrient provides energy and mental clarity. Studies have mostly focused on its role in improving certain types of cardiovascular diseases, including congestive heart failure and hypertension. However, Coenzyme Q10 may benefit those with diabetes and perhaps Parkinson's disease although research in this area has provided conflicting results.

According to the TLC family website, CoQ10 has been used to treat many things, from heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol to diabetes, breast cancer and gum disease. But that's not all. CoQ10 supposedly can help with immune deficiencies, increase fertility, treat Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, reduce ringing in the ears, delay aging and improve skin, and increase athleticism.

I feel as though we may need some medicines the doctor prescribes for us, a lot of them treat the symptom not the condition and the side effects are often worse than the condition itself.  Natural supplements may or may not be right for you.  But as for me, I have gone off all of my medicines, and trust me I was on a long list of them, and replaced them all with natural supplements.  Let me just say, every since I did that I feel great. ~ Tammy

Reflections

As I sit and reflect back on where I was and how I was feeling this time last year, I have to say that yes I have put some weight back on, but I am back to working on loosing that weight.  The biggest thing is how I am feeling.  I started on the Insulite Labs PCOS system in October  2011 and since then have started ovulating and cycling on my own.  I did go through a time here I had stopped, but that was my of my own doing and caused the weight gain.  I am happy to say that my weight has started going back down and my cycle has returned.

The biggest thing I have noticed is my whole thought process is that I am not having as many anxiety attacks and my depression is pretty much not there on a daily basis anymore. I know that everyday is not going to be perfect, but I also know that I am heading in the right direction.  I am still struggling with my chronic pain, but as I'm learning about that it is slowly going away as well.

I know that the path I am on is working for me, it has changed my life and I am starting to look at the future with a better outlook. As I think about where I will be a year from now, I feel I have a long way to go but I am confident that I will get there.  ~ Tammy

Lean on Me

I have been sitting here thinking about how great everything was going for me at the beginning of this year when I had lost sixty five pounds and I was cycling regularly due to my PCOS System that I was taking faithfully.  Then I got off my diet and slowly started gaining weight back.  In April my cycle stopped again. I was just so upset I never stopped to think that I did it to myself by going off my diet and gaining back thirty pounds. Well it took me three months to get into my thick head that I was the one that did this, the supplements did not fail me.  I failed myself.

I had made the decision to get me back a couple weeks ago.  I started back on my diet again and have lost six pounds in that short time and my body is starting to work for itself again.  It is surprising to think that being over weight can cause many issues in your body.  I know that as women with PCOS this is not an easy road to travel.  It is probably one of the biggest obstacles in our life holding us back from the things in life we want, whether it be a baby or just a healthier you.

Even though we have to work harder for the things we want in life doesn't mean it is impossible.  We can have all the same things that other women have.  This is why it is so great that we have each other to lean on.  We can and will do this together.  ~Tammy

No Compromise

I messed up pretty bad tonight and had pizza.  Where is my will power?  It sure doesn't take much for food to turn my head.  I feel like I'm  a junkie that has to have my fix.  I do really good for most of the week and get tired one night and blow my whole weeks work.

Its like I can stick to my diet really well Monday through Thursday and come Friday night all I want to do is eat out.  It's like something takes over my thinking and I could care less about how hard I have worked all week.

Many times in the past this one thing would push me into continuously eating unhealthy again.  I am bound and determined to not fall back into my old ways.  I need to put this behind me and pick myself  back up and start eating healthy again tomorrow.  Most people say that if you mess up once it's no big deal or a little won't hurt you.  There should be no compromise.  A lot of times when you compromise that is just the first step into your old pattern. This can apply with everything not just food.  Whether it is something you strongly believe in like a moral or ethical lifestyle or how healthy you live your life there should be no compromise.

So next time you decide to just eat one cookie remember that one cookie could slingshot you back to where you started from and to an unhealthy way of life.   ~ Tammy

So you had a Bad Day

Today I find that I my struggling with my anxiety and my stress level is high.  I am trying to reign it in but I'm having a bit of a problem.  This is where I mess up because I just get to a point where I want to eat everything in sight and whatever else I can dream up.   This is the kind of day that throws my whole diet out the window. I have not succumb to it yet and I am trying not to.  With that self doubt dialog that runs in my mind day in and day out it is a struggle.

There are days that I know I can battle my PCOS and other days I just don’t have the energy to do it.  They say keep your stress levels down so you can fight your PCOS, well can someone tell me how to do that exactly?  Again, I know I will have good days and bad days.  This is just one of those bad days, but thankfully this is a marathon and not a sprint.  ~ Tammy

Progress

It has been about a week now that I have decided to take my life back from my PCOS.  I have to say that I am doing really good so far. The biggest struggle I face everyday is me and my self dialog.  I know that I am the only one that can change me, but that voice inside that tells me "You will never get what you want in life so why try."  I am trying to turn that off.  PCOS controls so much of how my day will go that it is so easy for that voice to control me.

I have done my gratitude list and it does help, I have my husband who is my rock through all this.  My biggest battle is me.  Having something like PCOS is a major part of my life and it has taken so much away from me that I already feel defeated before I even try.  I know that there are going to be bumps in the road, but as long as I keep my eye on what it is I want, I can do it. As long as I have the people that care about me by my side.

 ~ Tammy

Apple Cider Vinegar and PCOS

By:Tabitha Norvell insuliteangel29@gmail.com

There has been a lot of information that has been spread around about Apple Cider Vinegar and how it helps PCOS and its underlying cause Insulin Resistance. I decided to do my own research and this is what I found:

If you suffer from PCOS and Insulin Resistance:
- Take Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) before or during your meals. This allows the ACV to absorb into your system and start working.
- By taking ACV before or during your meals it helps reduce the rise in your blood sugar that would normally occur right after you have finished your meal.
- By helping reduce the rise in blood sugar it keeps your body from producing to much Insulin.
- Because your body is not producing large amounts of Insulin it reduces the amount of testosterone.
- Less testosterone means less acne, hair loss, excess hair and cycle problems. (this is great for women suffering from PCOS!)

How to take ACV:
- It is best to use Unfiltered organic Apple Cider Vinegar
- You will need to dilute the ACV with water or Juice. ( I have heard it goes best with Orange or Apple Juice)
- When you first start taking ACV start with a small dosage of 1/4 to 1/2 of a teaspoon and then work your way up to 2 to 4 teaspoons.
- The more severe your PCOS, Insulin Resistance and obesity levels the higher the dose you will need to take for it to be effective.
- Make sure when you are taking ACV that you do a 1:2 part ratio. What this means is you need to have 1 part ACV and 2 parts whatever liquid you decide to mix it with. If you are doing 2 teaspoons ACV then you need to do a minimum of 4 teaspoons water or juice.
- The amount of ACV that you need to take is going to be based on your meals. If you are eating a low Glycemic load meal with low carbohydrates then you will not need as much ACV.

Things to be cautious of while taking ACV:
- DO NOT TAKE if you suffer from ulcers or gastritis

- Some women who have PCOS and IR are taking Metformin. If you are on metformin please notify your doctor that you want to try ACV with a low glycemic load diet. This way they can monitor your Insulin and Blood sugar levels and adjust or possibly take you off of Metformin completely.

- If you need to sweeten the taste of the ACV it is recommended that you do so by using the stivia liquid drops.

- It is recommended that you wash your mouth out with water after you have taken the ACV to get the remaining acid off of your teeth.

- If you are seeing fantastic results and are finally to a place in your health where you are maintaining, give yourself a break from the ACV. This may not be something that you need to stay on for life if you are able to control your symptoms with a low glycemic diet and exercise. Please consult your physician about this!

*NOTE* I am not a doctor and I am not giving out medical recommendations. I am ONLY sharing information about things that I have found work for me and the research that I have done on these supplements. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to your Physician about them!

The Little Engine that Could

Well I have made it five days into my diet and I am doing really good so far.  I think the thought of being chained to a certain way of eating is what turns me off of it. I look around at women  that don't suffer from PCOS and I am jealous that they can eat what ever they want. I am by nature a control freak and I have realized that the only thing I don’t try to control is my eating habits. It really makes you think, why is that?

I am still maintaining my new life philosophy, " I am the Master of my own Destiny."  Everyday I am working on my positive attitude and keeping my gratitude list handy when I feel myself slipping back to my old self.   I know that I can do this. I can have the life I dream of everyday instead of sitting  back and watching it pass me by.

I believe that we suffer so much with this condition that we need to take time out of this busy life and do stuff that makes us remember that we are beautiful. PCOS has taken so much away that we have to fight twice as hard, but we are stronger women for it and we will thrive. ~ Tammy

Short Luteal Phases with PCOS

A very special lady asked about how to change a short luteal phase defect with PCOS. I am going to share some information here for her and all the other Special ladies who are also needing this information.

What is a Luteal Phase?
- its the time from the day after ovulation to the day you start your next cycle.
- A normal Luteal Phase is between 12-14 days
- You temperature should stay elevated for two weeks after ovulation

Short Luteal Phase
- Lasts up to 10 but no longer then 10 days
- Is considered a failure in the uterine lining to be in the right phase at the right time
- Progesterone is responsible to raise the basal body temperature up to on degree Fahrenheit after ovulation with its hyper-thermal affect, this does not happen in a short luteal phase.

Eastern Medicine and Short Luteal Phase
- Few minor changes in your existing life style and diet may correct this problem
- Adding B6 to your supplements
- Staying away from harmful lifestyles such as:
      - smoking cigarettes
      - consuming alcohol
- Acupuncture before and after ovulation may also help.

When dealing with PCOS the doctors have told many of us that changing the way we eat, getting more exercise and being more active helps with the symptoms that come with PCOS. From what I have read and seen about this information its the same thing with a short luteal phase defect.

There are some prescription drugs that the doctors can give you. If you are not interested in them and would like to have an all natural way to fight this defect and PCOS symptoms you can find more information about it here:

For the full story of a short luteal phase and where I found my information you  can visit these websites and read everything that I have read:

For this next website scroll down to # 109 and you will find information on Luteal Phases

I will be doing more research on this and answering any questions that you may have in another blog. So please feel free to leave any comments, questions or concerns and I will address them soon.

Thank you!

Warm wishes,
Tabitha

Hypothyroidism Symptoms in Women

I was asked for more information about the symptoms of Hypothyroidism in women. I figured I would post it on here so that everyone would be able to have access to all of the information that I have found.

Here are the symptoms of Hypothyroidism in women:

- Heavier then normal cycles
- Due to heavier cycles there is a chance of becoming anemic
- Hyperprolactinemia which is where the body produces to much Prolactin. Prolactin is a protein that is associated with breast development and the production of breast milk.
- Galactorrhea is where the breast creates milk even with out pregnancy and the birth of a child.
        - These two conditions can cause other symptoms in women such as breast enlargement, pain in the nipples and breast as well as unusual breast discharge.
- Lower sex drive
- depression
-anxiety
