Fruit VS No Fruit

Everyone always says, "Just eat your fruits and vegetables and everything will be alright."  Will it?  As a woman with PCOS I know that ALL the sugars I eat will turn to fat.  That means ALL.  Natural sugars that are in all fruits will store as fat for me.  I have talked  to many women with PCOS and without and some can eat fruits just fine and they are beneficial to them, but some cannot.

I am one of those that cannot.  I love apples and oranges and bananas, but they don't like me.  It is unfortunate, but it is reality.  What about you, fellow PCOS women?  Can you eat fruits and not gain weight?  Do you even care?  Maybe you just like those fruits so much that it is worth the sacrifice.   Please share you thoughts with me.  ~ Tammy

I Will Do It Tomorrow

I sit here and feel like I am lazy and a major procrastinator.  Maybe I am a little bit, okay maybe I am a lot, but in my defense as a woman with PCOS the lack of energy I have plays a major role in that.  I have been taking lots of  B12 and yes it helps some, but not enough.  I sit here in my chair and think about how nice it would be to get up and do some dusting or vacuum the floors and don't get me wrong that gets done often in my house, but not as often as I would like.

I sit and think about how great it would be to paint the house, but then I think of what I would rather do today.  Unfortunately, what I would rather do is nothing anywhere near painting a room in the house.  My husband bless his heart does not have PCOS, but is so close to my likes and dislikes after 17 years of marriage and kind of puts things off a bit too.

I even think sometimes about how nice it would be to go to St. Louis and see the arch.  I have so many sites I could see right here in my back yard, but I am a procrastinator.  I put it off and put it off and put it off.  Maybe one day I will do that, maybe one day.  To all of those fellow PCOS women out there, yeah you, I need a little help.  What do you do for your energy?  How do you get the drive to do anything?  I want to do lots, but this darn PCOS feels like it is holding me back a lot of times from doing what I want to do and what I need to do.  HELP!!! ~ Tammy

Healing Depression and Anxiety the Natrual Way Part 3

There is a way to heal your depression and anxiety the natural way.  I am doing it with Holy Basil, L-Theanine and L-Taurine.  http://depressioncure4u.com/taurine.html had the following to say about Taurine:  What is Taurine? Taurine is another brain's inhibitory (soothing) neurotransmitter. It's an amino-acid similar in function and structure to GABA , which provides similar anti-anxiety effect, helping to balance and calm over-excited brain. It plays significant role in regulating electrical activity of nerves, stabilizing the heartbeat and acts as a powerful protector of the heart. Taurine is needed for normal functioning of the brain, gallbladder, cardio-vascular system and eyes (in fact, taurine is the prevalent amino acid in retina). It also supports immune system.

What is Taurine used for?

Due to its soothing and calming properties, Taurine is used as a natural cure for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, stress, insomnia, agitation, restlessness, irritability, obsessions, hypertension, arrhythmias, migraines, epilepsy, atherosclerosis, alcohol dependency, congestive heart failure and diabetes. It also has antioxidant and detoxifying properties and acts as a cardio tonic.

Taurine will help you to unwind after a hard day, promoting natural and healthy relaxation, comforting the body and pacifying the mind.

Dangers of Taurine deficiency

Taurine deficiency can develop for different reasons and may cause serious problems, such as depression, anxiety, poor brain function, hyperactivity, impaired vision, epilepsy, weight gain, hypertension and kidney problems. Taurine deficiency weakens the heart muscle, what may result in the heart failure.

So with these three natural supplements I have found a way to beat my anxiety and depression and not be on all that junk the doctor prescribes that has all the side effects.  I hope this helps you in your battle with depression and anxiety.

Healing my depression and Anxiety the Natural Way Part 2

Depression and anxiety can plague many of us, but there are natural ways to fight it.  Holy Basil is one thing that I take that works great.  Another is L-Theanine.  L-Theanine has multiple benefits, but the main on is for anxiety.  http://l-theaninebenefits.com/  had the following to say about L-Theanine: Research on human volunteers has demonstrated that L-Theanine may create a sense of relaxation in approximately 30-40 minutes after ingestion (at 1000 mgs) via at least two different mechanisms. First, this amino acid directly stimulates the production of alpha brain waves, creating a state of deep relaxation and mental alertness similar to what is achieved through meditation. Second, L-theanine is involved in the formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter, gamma amino butyric acid (GABA).

GABA influences the levels of two other neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin, producing the key relaxation effect.

L-theanine has an effect on the release or reduction of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, resulting in improved memory and learning ability. L-theanine may also influence emotions due to its effects on the increased release of dopamine. L-theanine reduces brain serotonin concentration by either curtailing serotonin synthesis or increasing degradation in the brain.  Stayed tuned for part three of this blog for the final natural supplement that helps me with my depression and anxiety.  ~ Tammy

Healig my Depression and Anxiety the Natural Way Part 1

Depression and anxiety can be the most terrible thing that most of us will deal with in our lives.  I have been on Zoloft, Paxil and Prozac, just to name a few.  Did they help me, yes and no?  They did take some of the feelings away, but in reality they just put me in a fog.  They made me feel like I did not know what I was doing half of the time.  Not to mention Zoloft makes you gain weight.  Funny how the doctor never told me that when he prescribed it to me.  Like I need to gain any more weight.   All of these prescription drugs for anxiety and depression have an unbelievable amount of side effects that I can do without.

I decided one day that I wanted to be off of all that junk.  I knew there had to be a way to heal my depression and anxiety the natural way.  I started taking three natural supplements that have really been combating all of the depression and anxiety for me.  The first one is Holy Basil.  Holy Basil has and unbelievable amount of benefits according to http://www.herbslist.net/holy-basil.html.  The benefits of Holy Basil are the following:

·        Reduce stress, depression and anxiety

·        Treat panic attacks

·        Promote cerebral circulation

·        Improve memory

·        Treat ADHD and ADD

·        For faster wound healing

·        As a pain reducer

·        Treat kidney stones

·        Treat high cholesterol

·        Treat mouth infections

·        Treat headaches

·        Treat poisoning

·        Balance hormones

·        Maintain healthy cortisol levels

·        Maintain proper blood sugar levels

As you can see Holy Basil is unbelievable.  Stayed tuned to my next blog for the second natural healer for depression and anxiety. ~Tammy

Rollin with the Punches

Something happened to me recently.  I won't go into a lot of detail, but this was a bit of a disappointment.  It is something that may be temporary or it may be permanent.  I don't know.  This is something that will negatively affect me.  I know your dying to know what it is, right?  Sorry, can't share the details, but it really got me thinking of how life changes so often.  It can change on a dime.  You can plan everything out ahead of time and map out your path, but life just happens sometimes.

How do we deal with these changes?  Well, we could whine about it.  We could get all bummed and depressed about it, but why?  We need to learn to roll with the punches.  Things happen, life happens.  We need to remain positive.  I heard a saying once and its great.  We need to plan for the worst, but expect the best.  This way we are being positive and optimistic, but we are covering ourselves in case something bad happens.

There are so many changes in life.  Changes in general and especially changes with our PCOS.  Okay, things happen and they flat out suck sometimes, but why get all down in the dumps.  We need to learn to roll with the punches.  We need to learn to prepare  for the worst and expect the best.  ~Tammy

Getting a Bad Rap

Why is it that all of us with PCOS get a bad rap?  I was talking to someone the other day and they had never heard of PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome).  I was a bit amazed that this thing that has plagued my life for the past twenty plus years was never heard of by this person.  I am certain there are many others out there like this.

I went to the doctor several times and they told me the same old thing, "You need to push yourself away from the table."  Really, do you all not understand that we eat the same things we did when we were 120lbs?  The main cause of our weight is PCOS.  Insulin resistance, has anyone ever heard of that?  This is one of the biggest symptoms of PCOS.

So, this is just one of those things us women with PCOS have to deal with.  We just have to accept the fact that 90% of the people out there including our family and friends are ignorant to PCOS and what it is.  I take that back, we don't have to accept it.  We can do everything in our power to get the word out about PCOS. ~Tammy

Freedom from PCOS

By: Tabitha Norvell Insuliteangel29@gmail.com

I have taken it upon myself to read as many books as I can about PCOS. Mainly to see what information is out there and different ways that other women as well as doctors are going about treating PCOS. I haven't found a cure to get rid of PCOS but I am learning ways and supplements to treat all of my PCOS Symptoms at once. Thus relieving me of almost all of my PCOS Symptoms. Now I say almost all of them for the reason that I have not as of yet been able to get pregnant. With that being said I am holding out hope that with my body getting back on track this is something that will happen in the future.

To get back to my point :) one of the books that I read and reread was Katie Humphrey's "Freedom From PCOS". This was a book that has almost become a PCOS bible for me. The things that Katie speaks about such as having a positive mind set, and having positive people around you that support you, making positive life changes and so much more, I have realized with each small step I take in these directions I am becoming happier, healthier and have a more positive outlook on my PCOS Journey. The way that she lays out her book and the way that it is written is like she is sitting in a room with you face to face talking directly to you and nobody else. This book really hit home for me, more then any of the other ones have.

I am not one who speaks highly of or advertises for a company or book or person or product, unless I have personally used it and continue to use it in my daily life. So I am saying it now I use and will continue to use Katie's "Freedom From PCOS" for the rest of my life! I recommend this book to any one who is dealing with PCOS. No matter where you are in your journey, if you can get a hold of this book please do. It is truly changing my life for the better, Just ask my husband :)!

You can order the book here:

You can find Katie Humphrey and the Products she has available at:

You can also catch her in the Sexy Younger You webinar that is taking place September 17th through October 19th. You can get more information on that here:
http://www.pcos.insulitelabs.com/sexy-you.php#.UFIBF41lTBG

I hope that this will help you all on your PCOS Journey! I will write more about the other books that I have read and let you know what I thought of each one of those!

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts! If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact me.

What a Weekend!

What a weekend! My husband and I got to go to Branson this weekend for my birthday and had a great time. Wouldn't you know it, lucky me, my body decided to get back on track this weekend of all weekends. But aside from all the cramping and bloating I had a great time.  You just never know how your PCOS is going to react, you learn to just roll with the punches.  I have been dieting and taking my Insulite PCOS supplements regularly and I am starting to feel 100 times better.  I feel as if my mood has improved  and I have just felt all around better.

This vacation has also opened my eyes to something else as well.  I have been sticking to my diet as best I can, but still not exactly how I should.  I had a great time on my trip, but I notice all the things I could have done and the much better time I could have had with less weight on me.  Where I am right now is definitely not where I want to be.  Seeing where I could be and the things I could do has given me extra motivation to be more strict on my diet.  It has showed me that what I truly want in my life is being healthy enough to walk with my husband and do things with him instead of enjoying some food that is full of carbs and will make me happy for a second instead of my long term happiness.  So here is to saying no to short term partial happiness and yes to a lifetime of happiness.

The Benefits of L-Arginine

L-Arginine is a natural supplement that I have been looking into.  I have not gotten any yet, but I will within the week.  The following is what http://www.antiaging-advisor.com/l-arginine-benefits.html
had to say about it:

L arginine benefits are many. Is it the new heart hero? Studies are suggesting just that. However this super amino acid treats a variety of conditions from skin rejuvenation to cancer. Because of its usefulness many consider this amino the tenth essential amino acid. L arginine benefits and amazing properties include:

  • Increases sperm count in men with sterility issues.

·         Retards cancerous tumor growths.

·         Reverses or improves erectile dysfunction caused by low blood flow to the penis. It also improves blood flow to the vagina and clitoris in women thereby heightening sexual response and arousal

  • May be good for arthritis.

·         Builds bone tissue.

·         Promotes collagen production for skin, cartilage and tendon rejuvenation and health.

·         Aids in weight loss by building Muscle mass.

  • Instrumental in HGH release. Human growth hormone speeds metabolism aiding the weight loss process, muscle building, and tissue repair.

·         Improves mental acuity and awareness.

·         Opens clogged arteries.

·         Reduces blood pressure.

·         Reduces angina chest pain.

·         Converts to nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a very powerful nutrient that expands and opens arteries. It is also linked to muscle development.

  • Expands blood vessels and blood flow in the extremities.

·         Increases endurance.

·         Lessens diabetic complications.

·         Stimulates insulin release from the pancreas.

·         Neutralizes ammonia in the body promoting liver detoxification.

·         Regulates enzymes and hormones.

·         Reduces stress.

Arginine foods- lean meats, fish, dairy, nuts, whole grain cereals, whole wheat products and wheat germ.

Arginine dosage = 1 to 3 gm taken on an empty stomach daily.

L arginine side effects-- no side effects occur with this amino acid in regulated amounts. Larger doses (above 3 grams at a time) can create stomach cramps, potassium imbalance, dehydration, nausea and digestive discomfort. People who are hemophiliacs, on blood thinners, those with low blood pressure, or those who have just suffered a heart attack should steer clear of Arginine. As always if you are unsure, please check with your doctor.

** On a personal note. Unless you are suffering for one of the above ailments, Arginine should be on everyone's health program. More than any of the aminos, its powerful effects are clearly noticeable within a few weeks.

If you have heart issues expand your dosage to 3 to 5 grams daily (before breakfast, after lunch and before supper). That means allowing 1 1/2 hours of time after your last meal before taking your doses.

It is also important that you allow at least 30 minutes after taking your doses to allow absorption before consuming food.

Want the ultimate fat burning, muscle developing, mental strengthening, energizer recipe?? Try this.. take 1 gram each of-- L-arginine, BCAA's (branched chain aminos), and L-glutamine first thing in the morning with 2 scoops of pure dairy whey.

This sounds like one of if not the best supplement there is out there.  Aids in Cancer and Diabetes, wow!  ~ Tammy

Your Eyes are Bigger than Your Stomach

Your eyes are bigger than your stomach.  That is what we have always heard growing up.  Sadly, most of us have grown up and our eyes are still bigger than our stomachs.  It’s the same every time, within a 15 min time period, we can go from starving and so excited for food to extremely sick and miserable.  I actually shouldn't use the term starving because we use that so loosely, I don't even think we know what that means.  Kids in Africa are starving.  They are so skinny all of their bones are showing.  We get a little rumble in our stomach and we are starving, really?

Why does food have so much control over us?  Sure, that cherry cheesecake or that big juicy ribeye steak tastes great, but is it worth being deathly ill afterwards or gaining weight and being very unhealthy?  Sadly, the way I can tell if I ate right or not is if I need my after dinner mint or not.  And what is my after dinner mint you ask?  My after dinner mint is either Gaviscon, Tums or Pepto.

I know I should be eating on a very strict diet with my PCOS, but moderation would be an outstanding start.  Is it an insecurity that we have?  If we have an extra large piece of pie instead of a half of one, will it make that big of a difference in our lives other than the difference between a major belly ache and weight gain versus a taste of something delicious?  We can have a taste of that thing we love so much, but we need to learn to have a small portion instead of a huge portion.  So the next time I need something full of  fat and delicious I will do everything I can to just have a little bit.  I know most times this is easier said than done and possibly the biggest battle we will ever fight in our lives, but if we take baby steps toward that we can make that change in our lives.  We can control the food instead of letting the food control us.  We will eat to live and not live to eat.

~ Tammy

Update on my PCOS Journey

By:Tabitha Norvell insuliteangel29@gmail.com

I havent been on here for about a week due to being in severe pain and heavy bleeding. Those of you that have PCOS know and understand what I am going through right now and I tell you what Ladies I dont wish this on any one. I found out almost two weeks ago that I had cysts on my ovaries again and the doctor wanted to do surgery to remove them...again... I went through this  surgery two and a half almost three years ago. What they did is go in and laser burn all the cysts that were on my ovaries. At the time it was 60 cysts. I was in pain for almost two months after wards and all it really did was take the cramps away when I was on my cycle. So you can imagine that I am not looking forward to doing this again. I have been absolutely exhausted, shaky and dealing with headaches all week. Friends of mine have told me to go see the doctor and get checked out again, but I dont have insurance so that isnt going to happen unless its a last option thing.

On a more positive side, I have been sticking to my "Diet" (more a lifestyle change) and have lost 4.5 lbs this week. I am excited about this! Even being bloated and not feeling well the weight is coming off. This is a relief. I find that I am not as hungry as I used to be and I am not constantly wanting and thinking of food. This is a big step for me and I am hoping that I can continue to make this an every day thing and get back to a healthier weight.
I know that I wouldnt be where I am today if it were not for a few close friends that I talk to daily, My husband and of course those of you that are on here supporting me through out this journey. So THANK YOU to all of you ladies who know and understand what I and so many others are going through.

Sending lots of love and warm wishes to you all!

Tabitha

Natural Healing Reborn

Okay ladies, I have been telling you about some great natural supplements for us.  Now, it is time I share with you one that my husband uses and I highly recommend you have your husband use it as well.

It is called Fenugreek and www.futurescopes.com had the following to say about it: Modern investigation into the chemical constituents has revealed that fenugreek contains some hormone-like substances which may heighten sexual desire or optimize the effect of sex hormones already present in the body. Some of these chemicals present in fenugreek are trimethylamine and diosgenin, a steroid-like compound which is known to facilitate the synthesis of a number of sex hormones in the body.

Yet another way by which fenugreek seems to have gained its reputation as an aphrodisiac is probably because of its beneficial effect on the body’s circulatory system. The vitamins and minerals present in fenugreek serve to rev up blood circulation, a factor which is crucial for achieving and maintaining erection among men. Fenugreek in fact is known to act as an anti-coagulant and help in clearing blocked passages in veins and arteries. It is a herb which works wonders to cleanse the lymphatic system of the body and thus help to improve circulation as well as immunity.
So, hopefully you will find this supplement as much as a must have as I do for your hubby.  ~Tammy

More Natural Healing

Another natural supplement that I have been doing lots of research on is Evening Primrose Oil.  This is a very good one for those women out there like myself that want to have a baby.  The following is what www.babyhopes.com has about Evening Primrose Oil: Evening Primrose Oil or EPO lowers cholesterol, helps to alleviate premenstrual syndrome symptoms and aids in the production of fertile quality cervical fluid. Evening Primrose Oil or EPO does a world of good in treating aliments of all sorts. Evening Primrose Oil or EPO is an essential fatty acid that contains gamma linolenic acid (GLA). This gamma linolenic acid (GLA) is converted to a hormone-like substance called prostaglandin E1 which has anti-inflammatory properties and may also act as a blood thinner and blood vessel dilator. These anti-inflammatory properties of evening primrose oil help people suffering from pains, aches and cramps.

Evening Primrose Oil or EPO also has effects on premenstrual syndrome symptoms and cervical mucus. If you suffer from premenstrual syndrome, it could be because you are deficient in the fatty acid, gamma linolenic acid (GLA). Evening Primrose Oil or EPO can help your body to alleviate the premenstrual syndrome symptoms by replacing the gamma linolenic acid (GLA).

Evening Primrose Oil or EPO helps women to produce more fertile quality cervical fluid also known as “egg white cervical mucus”. This type of cervical fluid is fertile, thin, watery, clear and “stretchy” and easily aids the sperm to swim through the uterus and into the fallopian tube, and to the egg. Also, this type of fluid helps the sperm to stay alive for up to five days inside the fallopian tube, thus enabling conception to happen even if you don’t have intercourse again by the time ovulation occurs.

If your cervical fluid is thick, brown or dry, it can obstruct or prevent fertilization. Some women are very dry, and have problems in producing an adequate amount of fertile quality cervical fluid. Drinking a lot of water and taking the Evening Primrose Oil or EPO can certainly help in the production of fertile cervical fluid in these women.

There are many other benefits Evening Primrose Oil has for us.  According to www.herbwisdom.com the following are just a few: Acne, allergies, arteriosclerosis, asthma, cholesterol regulation, chronic headaches, diabetic nerve damage. dermatitis, eczema, hyperactivity in children, high cholesterol, impotence and female infertility, inflammation, lupus, multiple sclerosis, prostate health, psoriasis, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, rosacea, scleroderma, treat, Alzheimer's-related memory deficiencies, upset stomach. Nourish nails, scalp, and hair. Prevent alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Relieve the discomforts of PMS (premenstrual syndrome), menstruation, menopause, endometriosis and fibrocystic breasts. Minimise premenstrual breast tenderness, irritable bowel flare-ups, and carbohydrate cravings, and help to control endometriosis-associated inflammation.

So aside from the fertility benefits of Evening Primrose, which sell it for me alone, there are many more benefits that make this a must have for my daily supplement list.

 ~ Tammy
